Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have two nice condition U.S. M1 bayonets with a 10 inch blades, made for the M1 Garand Rifle. Both have been set up for "parade use" by having their handles painted black, and come complete with modified WWII Issue M7 scabbards.
This bayonet design is essentially the same as the earlier M1905 / M1942 bayonet, but with a 10 inch blade instead of 16 inches. The first of these were "cut down" from longer bayonets, but these were purpose made in 10 inches, which can be seen in how the fuller does not run off the end of the blade. These shorter bayonets functioned well in the European theater, where in the rare bayonet-actions of the time they were matched up against the 9 3⁄4 inch long blade of the German S84/98 III bayonet fitted on the Karabiner 98k rifle.
Both bayonets are in very good shape, with light wear. One is marked on the ricasso by maker A. F. H. for American Fork & Hoe of Geneva, Ohio, while the other is marked U. C. for Utica Cutlery of Utica, New York. These markings are above a U.S. around the Ordnance "flaming bomb". The original phosphate finish on the blades is quite nice, while the handles have been painted over black, and show some damage to the plastic grips.
The original M7 scabbards have both been painted entirely black on the exterior, and have black vinyl belt frogs installed, with red inner trim. We do not know which country did this, as the M1 Garand was issued far and wide during the post war years, but they definitely look spart.
A very nice set of Post-War modified M1 Garand 10 inch Parade bayonets. Ready to add to your collection!
