Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. These are incredibly RARE, an ORIGINAL German WWI Mauser bayonets, converted post war for use with the Yugoslavian M-1924 Mauser Rifle, complete with newly made steel scabbards. These were the very first bayonets introduced by the new Yugoslavia, just after World War One, which created this "New Country".
The first bayonet in the set was made using the M1898 "Quillback" Style bayonet, dated 07 on the blade spine, and made by V.C. SCHILLING of SUHL. The original 20 1/2" blade has been shortened to 14 1/4" and the flashguard removed. It was then fitted with a new shortened scabbard. These are termed the M1898/24 in reference material.
The second bayonet made using the later M1898/05 "Butcher" Style bayonet, which has had all markings removed except for a bit of the CROWN / W proof on the spine. The original wide "Butcher" blade has been narrowed to standard "straight" profile, and the flashguard removed. It was then fitted with a new narrower scabbard. These are termed the M1898/05/24 in reference material.
These are VERY RARE, being the first bayonets issued with the later very common M-1924 Rifle. Please see Watts and White’s fine work THE BAYONET BOOK, for more information.
Very interesting, and ready to become a part of your collection!
