Item Description
Original Items: One Set of Three. Here we have some very nice 1950s era Airplane Identification models, all bearing the mold marks of TOPPING MODELS, then located at 108 NO. MAIN ST AKRON 8, OH.. This company had started producing scale aircraft models for military and civilian customers, and later made contractor sales miniatures for a wider range of American industries. This is a nice set of three models, which definitely do shoe some age and damage, particularly repairs to the tails of both Navy fighters. One also looks to have had the incorrect identification decals installed. They are all unfortunately missing the original stands, which would attach to the central hole in the bottom, allowing them to be displayed on a desk.
As best we can tell, this set is made up of the following aircraft:
- One Grumman HU-16 Albatross Sea Plane, probably a U.S. Airforce HU-16E, with decals for HQ-ARS (Headquarters Air Rescue Service) use. It is unfortunately missing both propellers, as well as the pontoons on both sides.
- One U.S. Navy Grumman F9F "Panther" Straight Wing Fighter Airplane. It has a repaired tail.
- One U.S. Navy Grumman F9F-6 "Cougar" Swept Wing Fighter Airplane. It has an incorrect designation decal on the rear, and has a repaired tail.
A very nice set, with great display potential!
