Item Description
Original Item: One Set of 3 Only. It happens during every conflict: after the fighting is over, field gear such as helmets that get damaged are simply discarded on the field. They get overgrown, covered with dirt, and forgotten, until someone construction or some other digging event unearths them. Having been left to nature for decades, their condition is a far cry from what they once were, but the age and look they acquire is something special in its own right.
Here we have a nice set of three "Dug Up" helmet shells from WWII. They are without liners and chin straps, as those would be the first things to degrade. However they are still identifiable, and are clearly WWII Issue helmets from Germany and Hungary.
The set includes:
- A German WWII M35 Helmet shell, in size 64cm. It still has one of the vent hole rivets intact, though part of the front rim has lost the rolled edge.
- A Hungarian WWII M38 Helmet shell in size 62cm. These are similar to the German M35, with the rolled edge and vent rivets. However the two additional rivets at the back identify this as a Hungarian helmet. It looks to have been almost "crushed", with many cracks in the steel.
- A German WWII M42 Helmet shell in size 68. This example is quite rusted, but clearly has the unrolled rim of an M42, as well as the stamped vent holes.
A really nice set, which would make a good addition to any WWII display!
