Original Items: Only One Set of Two Available. Totally inert per guidelines provided by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) these are two wonderful display cutaways made from German WWII Artillery fuses. They are painted and mounted into very nice wooden display stands, along with labels designating what they are. The larger fuse even has a legend and small number labels to identify the internal components. The writing is all in German, easily translated with today's technology. Both are marked 1990 near the top, which may be the year these sets were put together.
The smaller fuse is a ZERLEGERZÜNDER 16 (Disassembly Igniter) Z.Z.16, designed to crush inward and set off the round upon impact. In the display stand it measures about 4 1/4"H x 2 5/8" W x 1 1/2". It is in very good condition, with the stand still totally solid.
The larger fuse is AUFSCHLAGZÜNDER (Impact Igniter) A.Z.23r, designed for the impact to press in the nose and cause the projectile to detonate. In the display stand it measures about 7 1/2"H x 3 5/8" W x 2 1/2". It is in good condition, however the stand is a bit wobbly, and is missing a piece of wood that used to go across the top.
From the looks of it, both of these originally had a layer of thin transparent plastic around the front, which kept the fuse from getting dusty or damaged. This is now missing, but they could most likely easily be repaired. A great display piece for the shelf!
