  • Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice Scottish percussion single barrel fowling piece, and it definitely is quite a looker! It features a lovely spiral forged barrel, which is almost octagonal at the breech, with a very nice "Starburst" engraved on the top of the barrel. There is also some silver inlay around the nocks form.

It is half-stocked and has mostly steel mounts of butt plate, trigger guard, and ram rod pipes, while the nose cap is horn, and the barrel wedge escutcheons are nickel silver. The walnut stock is checkered at the grip. This is definitely an upmarket bespoke piece, and it features lovely engravings on on all fittings, especially the lock, which has scroll engraving, as well as a hunting scene showing a hunting dog chasing game birds, while his master stands in the background with a shotgun wearing a top hat. The lock plate is marked Wallace & Co. in gothic font, which research shows was James Wallace & Co of Edinburgh.

We did pull the barrel during routing cleaning, and the bottom of the barrel has the CROWN / SCEPTER / BPC Birmingham Shotgun Proof, as well as the CROWN / SCEPTER / V Birmingham "Views" marking. Birmingham had a huge firearms industry, and many gunmakers would use barrels supplied by their many makers.

This gun really is an attractive piece, with lots of ornamentation. The lock functions correctly, holding at half-cock, and firing at full. The gun comes with its ORIGINAL brass tipped ramrod, which has a brass screw cover over an iron "worm" clearing device for the barrels. We rarely see these still intact!

The stock is also very attractive, and we cannot see any cracks or repairs. The checkering at the wrist is still intact, and the wood has a lovely glow from years of use and polishing.

A lovely Scottish Fowling piece, very attractive and ready to display!
