Original Saving Private Ryan German WWII 98k Resin Prop Rifle with Sling

This is an original full-size Karabiner 98k resin prop rifle manufactured for use in Steven Spielberg’s 1998 film Saving Private Ryan, complete with its reproduction filming sling. These dense rubber or resin-type rifles were produced as lightweight, non-firing substitutes for real firearms and were particularly useful for background performers, action sequences, vehicles, and other scenes where a functional weapon was unnecessary.
This example is a full-scale replica molded from a heavy, dense rubber or resin-type material. The casting was taken from an original Karabiner 98k closely enough that numerous reproduced details remain visible, including copied serial numbers, Waffenamt inspection stamps, and other original-style markings carried over from the firearm used as the pattern. This example has the sling, which is a reproduction used for filming.
Interestingly, IMA supplied many of the Machine Guns, Edged Weapons and loads of other equipment for Saving Private Ryan which was released in 1998 and set the bar for the WW2 film genre.
The Karabiner 98 kurz "carbine 98 short", often abbreviated Kar98k or K98k and often incorrectly referred to as a “K98” (which was a Polish Carbine) is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge that was adopted on 21 June 1935 as the standard service rifle by the German Wehrmacht. It was one of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles. Although supplemented by semi- and fully automatic rifles during World War II, it remained the primary German service rifle until the end of the war in 1945.
Millions were captured by the Soviets at the conclusion of World War II and were widely distributed as military aid. The Karabiner 98k therefore continues to appear in conflicts across the world as they are taken out of storage during times of strife.
This example is particularly noteworthy for its full-size resin construction, detailed casting from an original Kar98k, surviving reproduced Waffenamt and serial markings, original filming sling, and direct association with the production of Saving Private Ryan. Together these features make it a tangible surviving piece from one of the most influential WWII films of the modern era.
