Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. One of our very last! This original WWII issue Russian M-1910 Maxim was built to BATF approved specs using one of our all original Russian stunning parts sets assembled on our BATF approved steel dummy non-firing receiver incorporating most internal parts. This example looks to be almost entirely of WWII Era parts, though it may have some WWI era parts, as did many of the guns the Russians used during WWII. It also includes some wonderful period accessories, some of which we have never had before!
Features of this set include in this set are-
- All original Russian issue MG parts.
- Newly made BATF approved side plates.
- Original M1910 Fluted Steel Water Jacket with a "Snow Cap", which allowed snow to be put directly into the water jacket easily.
- Correct later style rear sight
- Russian Ammo Can with Maxim Steel Belt
- A very nice condition Russian Maxim Gun cover, with cyrillic writing on a white tag. It is made of the standard rough WWII era canvas that Soviet Forces used.
- Steel excellent condition Sokolov wheeled mount, which has Finnish SA (Suomi Armeija or Finnish Army) markings.
The top cover of this example is marked with a circle on the top cover, which has a Star inside with an Arrow, for the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (Russian: Ижевский Механический Завод, Izhevsky Mekhancheskiy Zavod). This plant was founded in 1942 to manufacture small arms. Around this logo is the date 1944г (г is short for год - god, the Russian word for year), and below this is serial number ИВ509, which is also marked on the Feed Block and on other components of the top cover. The rest of the display gun is unmatching, but does have lots of markings.
This gun unfortunately must have seen very short service with the Soviet Army, as it was captured during 1944 as part of the Finnish / Russian "Continuation War", which lasted until November 1944. Virtually all of the Russian Maxims available on the market came out of Finland, just as this example, where they had remained after being captured from the Russians.
This is really an excellent example, which will make a great display piece in any collection!
The PM M1910 (Пулемёт Максима на станке Соколова, Pulemyot Maxima na stanke Sokolova or "Maxim's machine gun model 1910 on Sokolov's mount") was a heavy machine gun used by the Russian Army during World War I and the Red Army during World War II. It was adopted in 1910 and was derived from Hiram Maxim's Maxim gun, chambered for the standard Russian 7.62x54mmR rifle cartridge. The M1910 was mounted on a wheeled mount (Sokolov) with a gun shield and was replaced in Soviet service by the SG-43 Goryunov, starting in 1943. In addition to the main infantry version, there were aircraft mounted (PV-1) and naval variants.
