Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This full scale rubber replica non-firing prop gun as used in the 1994 Hollywood film Escape from LA. Escape from L.A. is the 1996 sequel to 1981's Escape from New York. John Carpenter returned as director and Kurt Russell stars once again as Snake Plissken, who is sent into the prison island of Los Angeles to retrieve a device stolen by the daughter of the President of the United States that is the key to activating a powerful doomsday weapon.
The United States Police Force guards and soldiers carry FN FAL battle rifles with Cobray 37mm Launchers mounted on them. According to armorer Steve Karnes, the FALs in the film were a mix of semi-auto Springfield Armory SAR-48s and selective fire LaFrance Specialties FALs with Cobray CM203 launchers and custom flash hiders.
This all rubber example was acquired from the Ellis Props and Graphics liquidation auction. Ellis was the oldest and the largest Prop House in California until its liquidation auctions in late 1999 and early 2000. The original faded ELLIS AUCTION LABEL IS STILL ATTACHED to the butt stock of this prop gun and reads DAY 5, LOT 5862.
Comes ready to display.
The SAR-48 is a U.S. domestic version of the FN FAL and was offered by Springfield in the 1980's. The Gun Control Act of 1968 massively restricted the importation of firearms into the United States and basically ended the importation of the FN made FAL rifle.
To quench the thirst for the FAL, Springfield teamed up with Imbel (a licensed FN manufacturer in Brazil) and created a semi-auto version of the FAL for the domestic market. This rifle was the closest thing the American market would see to the FN FAL. The SAR-48 was short lived (making it more collectable) as it was a victim to the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.
