  • Original Item: Only One Available. These are a very scarce hard to find issue pistol, and seldom seen on the market, especially in the original flintlock configuration. The Dutch M1815 flintlock dragoon pistol was introduced in the year of the battle of waterloo, and many saw action during the conflict.

The design features a 9" barrel and an overall length of 13 inches. As originally produced these had all brass fittings, including a very characteristic nose cap with a double scallop cutout in the top. As is correct there is no provision for a ramrod with these pistols, as they were carried separately.

This pistol looks to have been serviced in the Belgian gunmaking city of Liège after the Napoleonic Wars concluded, as indicated by the E / L G / * in an oval proof on the top of the barrel. The trigger guard had been broken during service, and it was replaced partly with one made of iron.

It is also numbered 232 on the top of the barrel, along with a maker name of BENTZ. From what we can tell, this is an Austrian maker, so the Dutch may have contracted the barrel from there originally, or possibly it was installed in Liège. There are some additional marks on the left side of the barrel that we cannot quite make out.

Condition of the pistol is quite good considering the age and service. The brass fittings are nicely matured, with a lovely mustard patina, and the barrel has a great lightly stained look. The lock is in good condition, with the correct brass flash pan, and is lightly oxidized overall. We checked the action, and the lock does have a worn sear and tumbler, so it will not hold at full cock, and can fire at half cock.

A very nice example of a very rare Napoleonic Era Dragoon Pistol. Ready to display!
