Original Rare German WWII Water Protection Police White Leather Belt with EM/NCO Pebbled Aluminum Buckle - Wasserschutzpolizei

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is something we have not had before! While we have had several of the buckles, this is the first time that we have had the matching white leather belt for the Water Protection Police!

This is a very good condition WWII German Wasserschutzpolizei (Water Protection Police) NCO's Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß) in gold painted / gilt pebbled aluminum, complete with a lovely service used condition white finished leather belt. The buckle is embossed with a central Swas (Hook Cross), with a wreath around it bearing the motto Gott mit uns (God with us). Nice single piece injection molded and bent aluminum construction box buckle with a pebbled background. The buckle is in very good condition, with all the pebbling present, as well as all of the details in the wreath. The gold paint is well retained on the front and back, and is what indicates that this is for the Water Police.

The leather belt is in very good service used condition, showing wear around the edges, and cracking overall to the white finish on the exterior. We do not see any other finish under the white, so we assume that it is the original finish. It retains the leather size adjustment tab with a double row of 7 holes, used to adjust the length of the belt. It measures about 44 inches in overall length, and is marked with size 110 cm (43.3inches) on the buckle end. This buckle actually has a very interesting maker mark on the underside of the tab by the aluminum attachment hook:

A. FISCHER
BERLIN C,2
1939
(ᛋᛋ)

The presence of the ᛋᛋ Doppelte Siegrune (Double Sig/Victory Rune) insignia would usually indicate SS use, but we believe that since the SS was in charge of the police, sometimes their equipment would be issued, especially to smaller units like the Water protection police. Definitely some great research potential here!

Overall a great example of a hard to find WWII German Belt, in very good condition. Ready to add to your collection!

On June 17th 1936, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler was appointed to the newly created position of Chef der Deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern, (Chief of the German Police in the National Ministry of the Interior), effectively giving him full control of all police agencies within Germany. As a result of this appointment and the restructuring of all the separate German state police into a single national police force, new regulations were instituted to bring about uniformity in dress for all police through-out the country.

One of the new uniform regulations, was the introduction of two, new styles, of belt buckles on June 25TH 1936 with a round buckle for Officer’s ranks of Polizei Obermeister up to and including, Generaloberst der Polizei and a box buckle for NCO ranks of Polizei Unterwachtmeister up to and including Polizei Meister. Both the Company and Field grade officers and NCO’s buckles were produced with a silver finish while Generals ranks of Generalmajor up to and including, Generaloberst der Polizei utilized gilt finished belt buckles. The Police were divided into eight assorted branches of service including the Wasserschutzpolizei, (Water Protection Police), and in an exception to the rule, all ranks of the Wasserschutzpolizei utilized gilt buckles.
