The NSDAP, or Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist German Worker’s Party), was originally founded in Munich as the DAP, or Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (German Worker’s Party), on January 5 1919. When Adolf joined the DAP in the autumn of 1919 he was to reform what was basically a debating society into an active political party. Appointed as the first chairman of the party on July 29TH 1921 he was to restructure it along para-military lines in a hierarchy of four levels of government.

During the next decade, the NSDAP gradually grew in power, and in 1933 Adolf was made the Chancellor of Germany, after which he quickly consolidated power to become a true dictator. However, even after having taken over the government, additional support was always needed, as if the people completely turned against the NSDAP, nothin would be possible. As such numerous propaganda items were produced, including posters like this, showing Adolf in his NSDAP brown shirt uniform, with an NSDAP armband on his left arm. The bottom of the poster has the following text:

Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer!

This was a common phrase adopted in NSDAP propaganda, translating to "one people, one country, one leader". This was a central tenet of the desire to unite all members of the Germanic "Master Race" as one country under der führer Adolf. It was this policy that led to the annexation of the "Sudetenland", which was followed by the total takeover of Czechoslovakia, and then by the Anschluss that brought Austria into the reich. This was seen on many different propaganda posters during the war.

The bottom right of the poster displays the information regarding the printer of the poster:

    CARL WERNER, REICHENBACH i.V.

Carl Werner was a printing house located in Reichenbach im Vogtland, today part of the  Vogtlandkreis district of Saxony in eastern Germany. They were a large supplier of propaganda material for the German government during the NSDAP period, and is a known printer of this specific poster.

The poster is in very good condition, showing some age toning but no major damage, and the colors are well retained. There are some small creases from being rolled up, as well as some small tears around the edges, but overall it is in lovely condition.

A very good example of a rare WWII propaganda poster, ready to add to your collection!

    More on Carl Werner:
Founded in 1889 as a printing shop with a stationery business, in 1919 Werner's sons took it over but continued to run it under the Carl Werner name. In 1929 the company built a large offset printing plant in Reichenbach with a publishing house attached. By 1939, over 1,500 employees produced a variety of printed products in the plant located on the Amtmannsgasse (Marien Street). In 1945 the printer was heavily damaged during an air raid bombardment.
