Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. These bayonets are literally like finding Hen's Teeth today! This is a magnificent example made by ERFURT and issued in 1902 as indicated on the spine of the massive blade with the Prussian marking W/02. Very nice un-chipped grooved wood grip plates and REGIMENTAL MARKINGS on both cross guard and scabbard throat.
Much larger than the later M98/05 Butcher Bayonet this has a 17-inch blade, 1.25 inches wide at the cross guard and is heavily Sawbacked to within 3 inches of the blade tip.
In sleeper condition, the bayonet is in fantastic condition. Of particular note is the complete scabbard, the first we've ever seen with all leather still intact.
One used to see these occasionally in the 1950s and never expected to run into one again. This is one of, or perhaps the rarest of German pioneer sawback bayonets!
