Original Rare German M-1898/02 Pioneer Sawback Bayonet & Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. These bayonet are literally like finding Hen's Teeth today! This is a magnificent example made by C.G.HAENEL, SUHL and issued in 1905 as indicated on the spine of the massive blade.

Much larger than the later M98/05 Butcher Bayonet this has a 17-inch blade, 1.25 inches wide at the cross guard and is heavily Sawbacked to within 3 inches of the blade tip.

In sleeper condition, the bayonet is in really great condition. It does have the remains of its original steel mounted leather scabbard, however the leather is dried out with all the stitching now absent and the steel top mount is missing. One used to see these occasionally in the 1950s and never expected to run into one again. This is one of, or perhaps the rarest of German pioneer sawback bayonets.
