Original Rare British Officer Sword, Circa 1770-1795

Item Description

Original One-of-a-kind Item: This is a really interesting British Military Sword for a Junior Officer, Lieutenant or Captain of the pre 1796 pattern issue. Single edged straight blade 27-inches in length (not a tall man), and 33-inches in overall length. Sword tip has been rounded so was somewhat longer originally and was shortened to keep it in service.

Blade is well marked on both sides with a Crown over G.R. over JEF/RIS, (abbreviation for the Government Contractor JEFFRIES).

Iron ball pommel and single branch knuckle bow with loop guard to right of hilt. Grip comprised of fluted Black hardwood, possibly ebony. Sword shows period use, blade repairs, nicks in the blade and a small chip in the grip.

Untouched just as it came out of the attic, a rare early English Infantry Officer's Sword from sometime between1770-1795.
