Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This Jaeger Rifle started life as a FLINTLOCK around 1820, as indicated on the butt plate tang, but was later converted to Percussion Cap ignition system. It has a heavily rifled 22 1/2" octagonal barrel, and is set up as a Sharp Shooter's gun with double Set Triggers. It is just 39" in overall length and has a fine Walnut butt stock, complete with sliding patch box cover. The mounts are all of heavy brass. The lock plate still bears the faint remnants of the original markings, most likely Potsdam. Both the barrel tang and the butt plate tang are stamped with Regimental markings:-
239. 2. J. A. 2.O.
The folding rear sight is missing the folding leaf section. Comes complete with brass tipped wood ramrod. Condition is very nice, with the expected wear of age. Stock has proof marks behind the trigger guard, including a Crown over F.W., for king Friedrich Wilhelm III or IV of Prussia. Set trigger still works, but does may require adjustment. A most attractive rifle, heavy duty and compact.
Fully cleaned and ready to display!
