This is a particularly interesting collection of nine original 1931 Carl Eickhorn of Solingen country-specific saber and edged-weapon sales catalogs, accompanied by a large period Eickhorn advertising and saber-sizing display card. These were commercial publications produced by the famous Solingen blade manufacturer for its extensive international export trade, with individual catalogs prepared for specific European and Latin American markets. The catalogs were produced specifically for Eickhorn's export business. Each presents military swords, sabers and related edged weapons appropriate to the intended country, generally combining German text with the language of the customer nation. The illustrated interiors use Eickhorn model numbers and detailed line drawings of complete swords and their scabbards, making these publications particularly useful today for identifying original Eickhorn export patterns. Nowadays, the 1931 Eickhorn export catalogs are utilized as important primary references for identifying and dating swords.

For example, the Swedish catalog is titled SÄBEL FÜR SCHWEDEN / BLANKA VAPEN FÖR SVERIGE, with the Carl Eickhorn crest on its mustard-colored cover. Its introductory page is dated Solingen, 15.3.1931 and contains parallel German and Swedish text beneath an illustration of the Eickhorn factory. The Netherlands example reads SABELS VOOR NEDERLAND EN KOLONIËN / SÄBEL FÜR DIE NIEDERLANDE UND KOLONIEN, while the blue Costa Rican catalog is marked SÄBEL FÜR KOSTA RICA / ARMAS BLANCAS PARA COSTA RICA and has an introductory page dated February 1931. Interior plates depict the available swords in large, highly detailed illustrations divided by branch and model number.

Demonstrating how tailored these publications were, the 14-page Netherlands catalog was produced in a large format using red and black ink for the Dutch police and military markets. It features complete illustrated plates showcasing patterns designed for artillery, naval, and infantry personnel, alongside additional models.

Carl Eickhorn was one of Solingen’s most prominent manufacturers of military swords, sabers, bayonets, and other edged weapons. Founded in 1865, the company built a substantial international export business and supplied military and governmental customers well beyond Germany. By the early 1930s, Eickhorn was producing country-specific catalogs for foreign markets, illustrating the sword and saber patterns available for individual nations and services. This group dates from that important interwar period, during the final years of the Weimar Republic, before the company became especially associated with the military and political edged weapons of the Third Reich era.

Also included is the large stiff-card Original Eickhorn-Säbel advertising display. One side bears the Eickhorn squirrel trademark beneath the slogan Dieses Zeichen bietet volle Gewähr and provides a Gegenüberstellungen von Körpergrößen und Säbellängen, essentially a chart matching the wearer's height to recommended blade and overall saber length. Separate columns are provided for Offizier-Säbel and Mannschaft-Säbel, with additional recommendations for the Fliegerschwert. The central advertising text emphasizes Eickhorn's patented saber construction and trademark.

The reverse is even more visually impressive, displaying a selection of Eickhorn military saber hilts, including the named Scharnhorst, Blücher, Zieten, Roon, Wrangel, Freiherr vom Stein and Derfflinger patterns, together with the Fliegerschwert and Model 189 enlisted man's saber. The lower margin carries the printed code “XXX. 10. 37. U.”; the “10.37” portion appears consistent with an October 1937 printing, although we have not independently confirmed the meaning of the complete printer's code.

The catalogs display attractive period color covers with Eickhorn's corporate crest and retain their illustrated interior material. They show expected age and handling consistent with original commercial literature of this period, including some toning, edge and corner wear and scattered surface marks. The larger advertising card has seen more handling and shows visible edge wear, creasing, staining and areas of surface deterioration, but importantly retains its extensive printed information and illustrations on both sides. As a group, these catalogs provide an unusually comprehensive look at Carl Eickhorn's international edged-weapon trade in 1931, covering customers in Scandinavia, southeastern Europe, the Netherlands and its colonies, and five Latin American republics. Together with the later Eickhorn saber advertising card, they form an excellent period reference collection for anyone studying Eickhorn swords, foreign-contract military sabers, Solingen manufacturing, or the international military-equipment trade of the interwar period.
