Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. These were originally issued before the Great War and were designed to be for use with the Mannlicher Berthier Infantry Rifles. It is a somewhat standard sword type bayonet, with a single edged fullered blade. The pommel design however is definitely somewhat unique, designed for a bayonet lug that fits into a round hole in the pommel of the bayonet. It also features hardwood grips retained by ground-flat rivets, with a full hooked quillon crossguard. For more details please see Watts & White The Bayonet Book, page 98, item 213.
Both the bayonet and scabbard bear matching serial number D 60824, which is definitely something that we do not see very often at all. Condition is very good, with wear and light oxidation commensurate with age. The bayonet latch is fully functional.
These are becoming harder to find as time goes on, and this is definitely a very good example. Ready to clean and display!
