  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a most unusual helmet that is known as a JINGASA translating to "War Hat" or "Military Hat" during the Edo period of 1700 to 1860. The Edo period was a time of relative peace so the earlier traditional massive KABUTO helmets used as part of a Samurai's armor were phased out and the Jingasa became quite popular.

By the end of the Edo period, known as the Bakumatsu Period of 1853-1868, the use of the Jingasa became more widespread to include being used by clan armies notably during the Boshin War of 1868-1869 when the Aizu Rifle corps frequently used this pattern helmet.

A scarce bit of original Edo period Japanese military headgear of lightweight construction offered in complete condition. You won't find another one of these anytime soon!
