Original Items: Only One Group of 6 Available. Awards and decorations of the Soviet Union are decorations from the former Soviet Union that recognised achievements and personal accomplishments, both military and civilian. Some of the awards, decorations, and orders were discontinued after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, while others are still issued by the Federation as of 2021. Many of the awards were simply reworked in the Federation, such as the transition of Hero of the Soviet Union to Hero of the Russo Federation, and Hero of Socialist Labor to Hero of Labor of the Russo Federation. A wide range of Soviet awards and decorations cover the extensive and diverse period of history from 1917 to 1991.
This lovely grouping consists of the following items:
- NUMBERED Medal For Courage/Valor: The Medal "For Courage" or Medal "For Valor" is a state decoration of the Russo Federation that was retained from the Soviet awards system following the dissolution of the USSR.
The Medal "For Courage" is a 34mm in diameter circular silver medal with a raised rim on both the obverse and reverse. On the obverse, in the upper part are three aircraft flying from right to left. Below the aircraft is the impressed and red enameled inscription in two lines "FOR COURAGE" (ЗА ОТВАГУ) and below the inscription is a (T-35) tank with its forward left corner closest to the front. The Soviet variant had the additional impressed and red enameled inscription "USSR" (CCCP) below the tank just above and following the curvature of the medal's obverse lower rim, the current medal has no such inscription. The medal's reverse is plain except for the award serial number, 1758313.
The medal is secured to a standard Russ pentagonal mount by a ring through the medal suspension loop. The mount is covered in a silk moiré 24mm wide gray ribbon with a blue 2mm edge stripe on each side. The original early Soviet award (1938 to 1943) hung from a small square mount covered with a red ribbon.
- Medal "Veteran of Labor": The Medal "Veteran of Labor" was awarded to workers for many years of hard work in the national economy, sciences, culture, education, healthcare, government agencies and public organizations. The medal was awarded to workers, farmers and employees in recognition of their lifelong labor on reaching the seniority required for a long-service pension or retirement age. Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR number 5822-IX of June 8, 1977 added the rank and file and the officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as potential recipients under the same award criteria as the laborers mentioned in the August 12, 1983 decree. Recommendations for the award were made jointly by administrators of Party and trade union organizations, enterprises, institutions and organizations based on nominations from working groups or workforce councils. The list of potential recipients was then forwarded to municipal, district, or Party and government bodies for final approval. In the case of members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the list of nominations was forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs for final approval.
Award ceremonies of the Medal "Veteran of Labor" usually took place in the work place of the recipients and were made on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Union or of Autonomous Republics, the executive committees of regional and provincial Soviets, Moscow Soviet, Leningrad Soviet, or of the city Soviets of People's Deputies of the capitals of Soviet republics.
The Medal was worn on the left side of the chest and in the presence of other medals of the USSR, immediately after the Medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945". If worn in the presence of awards of the Russian Federation, the latter have precedence.
The Medal was designed by artist SA Pomansky. It was a 34 mm in diameter circular medal struck from tombac and then silver-plated and oxidized. The obverse of the medal bears the relief image of the hammer and sickle over the inscription "USSR" (Russian: «СССР») with diverging rays, a laurel branch spans the width of the obverse from right to left passing under the sickle's handle in an upward curve, along the lower and right circumference, a ribbon bearing the relief inscription "VETERAN OF LABOR" (Russian: «ВЕТЕРАН ТРУДА»). The otherwise plain reverse bears the inscription on four lines "FOR LONG DILIGENT WORK" (Russian: «ЗА ДОЛГОЛЕТНИЙ ДОБРОСОВЕСТНЫЙ ТРУД»).
The Medal was secured by a ring through the medal suspension loop to a standard Soviet pentagonal mount covered by a 24mm wide overlapping silk moiré ribbon with 1 mm wide white edge stripes and coloured from left to right by a 7 mm wide dark gray stripe, an 8 mm wide light gray stripe, and three 2 mm wide red stripes separated by two 0.5 mm wide white stripes.
