Original Item. Only One Available. This is a good service-worn example of a post-WWII Bulgarian People’s Army officer dress dagger, complete with its original-style scabbard and hanger chain. The dagger is unmarked and shows substantial age and handling wear throughout, with much of the original gilt finish on the brass-colored fittings now worn down to a darker patina. Its general construction, decorative motifs, and suspension arrangement are consistent with Bulgarian postwar officer dirks of the early Cold War period. Comparable examples are documented with nickel-plated steel scabbards, bronze or gilt fittings, Bulgarian national motifs, and chain suspension.

The hilt is fitted with a squared pommel terminating in a star device on the bottom. The grip is made from an ivory-colored synthetic material molded with a grain intended to imitate natural ivory. It remains complete without any visible major chips or losses. A decorative brass-colored fitting separates sections of the grip, while the ferrule remains present but is slightly offset from the remainder of the hilt. The crossguard is firmly seated, and the thin blade buffer pad remains present.

The scabbard consists of a nickel-plated steel body with gilt-brass or brass-colored fittings that have developed the same dark age patina seen on the hilt. The lower chape shows several minor dents, while the throat fitting carries two distinct decorative emblems. One side displays the Bulgarian lion, a longstanding national emblem. The opposite side depicts the Bulgarian Communist Party House.

The hanger assembly remains attached and consists of a clip and chain showing finish loss and patina consistent with the other metal components. The chain measures approximately 8 inches in length.

The blade is nickel-plated steel with a double-edged spear point and a single narrow fuller running along each side. It shows plating wear and scabbard runner marks from repeated insertion and withdrawal. No maker, serial number, date, or other identifying markings are visible, so the exact manufacturer and year of production cannot presently be established.

Overall condition is good but clearly service worn. The gilt finish has largely mellowed into a dark patina, the scabbard chape shows minor denting, the ferrule is slightly offset, and the blade plating shows wear and runner marks. The ivoroid grip remains notably intact without visible major chipping, and the scabbard and hanger chain remain together with the dagger.

This is a strong representative example of a postwar Bulgarian officer’s dress dagger, retaining its complete hilt, intact synthetic ivory-colored grip, national lion emblem, nickel-plated scabbard, and hanger chain. The unmarked blade prevents a more specific manufacturer or production-date attribution, but the surviving construction and insignia place it securely within the Bulgarian People’s Army dress-dagger tradition of the early Cold War period.
