Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very scarce French-manufactured M1886-pattern Lebel bayonet later adopted and marked for service with the Polish Army as the Wz.86/93. It retains its full-length cruciform blade, original steel scabbard, and a Polish leather frog, all showing substantial age and service wear.

The French M1886/93 Lebel rifle and its distinctive cruciform bayonet were supplied to the Polish Army in France, commonly known as the Blue Army or Haller’s Army, during WWI. Commanded by General Józef Haller, this force was organized in France beginning in 1917 and equipped largely with French uniforms, rifles, and military equipment.

After the restoration of Polish independence, Haller’s Army was transferred to Poland in 1919 and became an important part of the armed forces of the Second Polish Republic. Its French-supplied Lebel rifles and bayonets continued in Polish service during the Polish-Ukrainian and Polish-Soviet Wars and into the interwar period.

Stamped beneath the pommel. The museum also directly associates this pattern with Haller’s Army and its French-issued Lebel rifles.

Several smaller inspection or proof marks are also present on the crossguard. No serial number was located on the bayonet or scabbard.

The long cruciform blade measures approximately 20 1/2" and remains in good, solid condition. It shows extensive dark oxidation staining and age discoloration across the surface, but the distinctive four-sided profile remains complete.

The steel crossguard is heavily oxidized and shows substantial surface age and patina. The grip, pommel, muzzle ring, and locking mechanism should be reviewed carefully in the accompanying photographs.

The complete bayonet measures approximately 25 1/8" overall.

The original steel scabbard is included and measures approximately 21" long. It shows extremely heavy oxidation, deep pitting, finish loss, and surface deterioration along much of its length. Despite the extensive wear, it remains complete and continues to hold the blade.

The scabbard is carried in an original Polish leather frog. The leather has become dry and fragile, with cracking, deterioration, and breakage to the retaining strap. The frog should be handled carefully and should not be placed under tension.

Condition is heavily service worn overall, with substantial oxidation to the blade, crossguard, and scabbard, together with dryness and damage to the leather frog. These condition issues are fully visible in the photographs and contribute to the bayonet’s genuine interwar Polish military character.

The clearly stamped Polish WZ86/93 marking, French manufacture, full-length cruciform blade, original scabbard, and scarce Polish frog make this a very desirable example of the French equipment used by Haller’s Army and the early armed forces of the Second Polish Republic.
