Original Persian / Arab 19th Century Sword with Ornate Engraved Hilt

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting Arabic sword with heavy engraving across the hilt. There are Arabic or Persian characters on the chappe/rainguards, but we have been unable to discern them. The sword is missing its scabbard, but remains in gorgeous condition.

The sword’s hilt is beautifully engraved on the handle, handguard, backstrap, and grip ferrule. The back of the grip has opened a small bit, revealing the material inside. The hilt is made entirely of metal, which is odd for a sword of this period. The blade has a false second edge near the top. The blade of the sword measures 30½”, with an overall length of 35⅝”. The design of the blade leads us to believe this would’ve been a cavalry saber.

This is a very intriguing sword that requires much more research, a great project for any sword collector! This example comes ready for further research and display.
