Original Ottoman Flintlock Jezail with French Type Lock c.1800

Item Description

Original Item: One Only. The jezail (sometimes Jezzail from the Arabic) is a simple, cost-efficient and often handmade muzzle-loading long arm commonly used in Middle East region in the past. This example has a 53" steel barrel showing Armorer's mark on rear left. Overall length 68" with finely carved wood stock decorated with bone inlays and brass studs. Magnificently embossed French style flintlock mechanism wither-enforced cock neck,

Designed for use on a camel with large saddle ring to left hand side and never intended to have a trigger guard. Jezails were often fired from a forked rest, or a horn or metal bi-pod, so the extreme length was not an issue.  Absolutely authentic to circa 1800 and made for use not a decorator. Most impressive and ready to display in really wonderful condition.
