Original Item: Only One Available. A shamshir (Persian: شمشیر) is a type of Persian/Iranian sword with a radical curve. The name is derived from shamshīr, which means "sword" (in general). The curved sword family includes the shamshir, scimitar, talwar, kilij, pulwar and sabre. It was also used in Arabia, there known as the Saif (سيف). The design spread throughout the Islamic world, and into the Ottoman Empire.
This is a tremendous Ottoman Shamshir / Scimitar sword made with a lovely gold-inlaid blade and horn handle. The blade fits very well into the correct scabbard with the open space on the side for the unique curvature of the blade. The blade measures 31 ½” and bears two Ottoman stamps near the ricasso. There is lovely gold-inlay on one side. The overall length is roughly 37”.
The horn grip is embedded with several small bosses which may be lead. The crossguard has a lovely etched design.
The brass-mounted leather scabbard is in great condition with the mounts etched in the same way as the crossguard. The mounts are a bit loose but the condition is outstanding for the age.
A most impressive example in every regard, ready for display.
