Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice Flintlock Pistol originating from the Caucasus region, which was at the eastern edge of the Ottoman Empire during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The pistol measures 19 inches in overall length, with an 11 1/2 inch long barrel bearing a silver ring at the muzzle. The pistol does have a wooden stock, but on this particularly interesting example it has been completely clad with embossed silver and "Camel Bone". There are numerous silver studs and semi precious stones inlaid into the bone, which itself is also engraved with designs. Really a great display piece showing lots of artistry!
The pistol is fitted with a standard middle Eastern iron lock with no markings. The lock, which can be cocked and discharged, appears to be securely fastened in place so we have elected to leave it that way. It does not have a half cock position, and may not have been designed with one. Copying the western Style, the pistol displays a "faux" ramrod which is not intended for use, in this case as part of the the stock. The actual ramrod was usually carried on a leather thong carried around the neck, so that it could not be dropped during reloading at sea or on horseback.
A very interesting design that could have originated as far west as the Ottoman Empire but certainly somewhere in the Caucasian Region. Fore Stock of wood completely Silver sheathed, the butt all Camel Bone with fascinating Silver mounted hockey puck disc as pommel which we have never seen before.
Dating probably from the early 1800's this is spectacular and ready to display!!
