Original Ottoman 19th Century Egyptian Khedive’s Bodyguard “Iron Men” Helmet

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a heavily worn and oxidized example of a Khedive’s Body Guard/Palace Guard helmet. It is handcrafted of brass and magnetic iron, with the core of the helmet being made out of plain iron, and sporting a brass topper on the crown of the helmet, complete with a crescent final, and very sharp tips. The helmet is round in shape with a beaver-tail neck guard towards the rear, with brass trim around the edges.
The side-band is crafted out of brass, with an arrow-shaped adjustable nose guard on the front of the helmet, complete with a functional retainer screw that allows the arrow to move up or down for adjustment. Both sides of the helmet feature a brass disc with a large five-pointed star in high relief to cover the ears, from which the original chain chin straps are suspended. These originally would have had leather backing but this is all gone now, with very small remnants still attached at spots.
The body of the helmet has heavy cracking and minor material loss in the cracks along the crown. The device meant to fit to the front fittings is gone, but the mounts are there. The bottom mount is partially disconnected as shown.
The crescent moon crest is still intact but there is very heavy cracking in the body around the top mount. The helmet originally would have had chainmail covering the neck, and the hooks which the chainmail hangs off of are still intact inside, but the chainmail is entirely gone.
