Original Norwegian M-1859 Bayonet for Breech Loading Rifles with Leather Scabbard & Frog

Item Description

Original Item. Only One available.  Introduced in 1859, this bayonet was then used with the M-1860 Infantry Rifle, the 1867 Remington Rifle  and the 1876 Krag Pertersson rifle, only requiring slight modifications to fit each. While the rifles became obsolete, the same is not true for bayonets, so they were often refitted to fit the next generation of firearms.

With a heavy blade of over 22" and overall length of almost 28", this is a very impressive bayonet! It features a brass pommel, wood beech wood grips with long catch spring to tension the bayonet catch. It has a simple brass crossguard with muzzle ring, and a single fullered slightly curved blade.  The ricasso is marked both sides with maker and proof marks. For more information please see Watts & White’s fine work THE BAYONET BOOK, Page 232, item 516.

It comes complete with its heavy brown leather scabbard with internal brass bottom mount. This is held in a very substantial brown leather frog, which has a locking strap for the brass ring on the scabbard throat.

Very unusual and ready to display!
