  • Original Item. Only One available. This started life as the standard Norwegian brass mounted Saber Bayonet Model of 1859 which was designed to fit many breech loading rifles, including the M.1867 Remington Rolling Block Rifle. The original blade length was 22 1/2", and these were issued in a variety of leather and steel scabbards.

In 1884 both the Army and the Navy adopted the JARMANN Rifle and multiple prototypes were made using the 1859 Saber Bayonet as a starting point. This was one, we think intended for the Navy, in that a large "M" marked on the left side of the ricasso. (Possibly for MARINE) The blade was officially shortened to 19" and modified cross guard was added with a large back turning flap just next to the muzzle ring itself.

No Scabbard, evidence of blade having been sharpened still apparent but in fine condition. Very unusual and ready to display!

    Specifications:
    Blade Length: 19 1/2"
    Blade Style: Yataghan Saber
    Overall length: 24 3/8“
    Crossguard: 4”
