Original Item: Only One Available. These are very uncommon pistols on the market, and we have only ever seen a few. This is a very nice Norwegian Model of 1831/1846 Percussion Converted Cavalry Pistol fitted with a 9 3/4" 0.67" smoothbore barrel with an overall measurement of 16 1/2". Only 1280 pairs of these pistols were made, each set consisting of one rifled “studser" pistol and one smoothbore “flankors” pistol, plus a detachable shoulder stock.
The pistol features all brass mounts of butt cap, trigger guard, side plate and nose cap. Not cut for any type of ram rod, the lock plate and side plate are both marked with serial number 144. A nearly identical pistol is pictured in Antique Arms by Wilkensen on page 78.
We understand these were made at the Arsenal of KONGSBURG in Norway, however this example has been cleaned a lot, so the “Crown over K” marking is not visible on the lock plate or cap bolster. The iron lock is fitted with a "Dog Catch" as a safety measure allowing the pistol to be totally secured whilst being fully loaded. There is an iron back strap extending from just behind the barrel tang all the way down the spine of the grip to the brass butt cap. This back strap is cut for the addition of a removable wood shoulder stock not present at this time.
The entire pistol in fine condition with scattered old pitting scars. The lock functions correctly with the safety dog. The stock does show some cracks and past repairs, and shown in the photos.
In fine working condition, ready to display!
