Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is an original Democratic Republic of Vietnam 3rd Class Victory Order, or Huân chương Chiến thắng, with its large named award certificate dated April 28, 1958. The certificate is issued to Do-vu-Quat and bears the stamped signature of General Võ Nguyên Giáp, then Minister of National Defense. Established only months earlier to recognize qualifying military service during the resistance war against France, the decoration and certificate form a particularly attractive early postwar award grouping directly connected with the First Indochina War period.

This is a great example of the medal with the original award certificate, which is dated
April 28th, 1958 and is awarded to Do-vu-Quat. The certificate was folded to fit into a riker case, which is not included. The certificate should be framed with the medal.

The certificate measures 14 ½ x 17 ¾” and has wear, primarily from folding. The medal complements it well and will make for a great display. The certificate bears the stamped signature of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the bottom right as Minister of National Defense.

This medal and certificate represent a retrospective First Indochina War service award issued by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1958. The surviving certificate is particularly significant because it preserves the recipient’s name, issue date, award class, and official authorization together with the medal.

With its named April 28, 1958 certificate, 3rd Class Victory Order, large 14 1/2 x 17 3/4-inch format, and Võ Nguyên Giáp ministerial signature stamp, this is a strong documented grouping from the immediate post-First Indochina War period and an excellent representation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam’s early military awards system.
