Original New Zealand Issue Martini-Henry .303 Carbine- Dated 1895

Regular price $1,695.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This nice little carbine started life as a Martini Henry Mk III in .450/.577 Caliber. It bears original stampings on the right side of the receiver of:

ENFIELD

1881

III

It was converted to .303 caliber in 1895 and bears those markings on the left side of the receiver:

ENFIELD

1889

M.E

.303

I

This weapon when converted was fitted with a new .303 caliber barrel, a new wood fore-end and bayonet stand intended for use with the P-1888/1895 Lee Metford and Lee Enfield knife bayonet.

On the top of the front of the receiver is stamped a broad arrow over:

N.Z.

99

These markings indicate reissue in New Zealand in 1899.

Offered in very good collectable condition retaining much blue finish and lots of official proof and military acceptance mark stampings. Weapons marked to specific parts of British Empire of that time are hard to find and very much sought after.
