Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is very attractive and it could be either of BRITISH or FRENCH origin Circa the Napoleonic Wars. We tend to think it is in fact a French Naval Midshipman's short sword, in that Napoleon's wars with Austria produced all types of Austro-Hungarian captured weapons, which could be the source of this wonderful blade.
The blade measures 18 1/2" in length is curved and engraved on both side with very typical engravings including that are called "Turk's Heads", a symbol dating back to the Ottoman Siege of Vienna in the 1680's. It measures 25" overall and the fluted grip is of some dark hard wood possibly Ebony. It is brass mounted and has a plain cross guard and pommel. There is a small proof mark F T in a rectangle on the cross guard, but we have not been able to identify this.
This is most compelling and beautiful. It comes without a Scabbard but will display wonderfully!
