Original Napoleonic French Naval Brandy Keg with Provenance Dated 1798

Original Item: Only One Available. Purchased from the Marine Museum Collection in England this is an Original French Wood Brandy Keg of oval form with iron straps. Measuring 10' x 8' x 5' the Keg is marked on one end with a series of 'TH' stamps. On the other end there is a stamping of a 'Fleur de Lis? over 'A - 1' over '97'. On the top center where the stopper is supposed to be located, now missing, is a silver plaque engraved as follows:-
'French Naval Gunner's Brandy Keg taken from Boney's ship GUERRIER 1798.'
The backside of the Keg still retains a wired Museum Display Tag marked 'VII'
By tradition the British issued watered down Rum known as 'Grog' to their seaman whereas the French issued Brandy (or Cognac as they called it).
A most interesting original French Naval Brandy Keg from the Napoleonic Wars in fine display condition.
