Original Named War Trophy Mahdi Dervish Kulah Khud Style Helmet Captured at the Battle of Omdurman in 1898

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. This is most impressive and comes with its own inscribed display stand. A Silver plaque on the base of the stand states the information regarding the Battle and the Soldier who captured it:

Omdurman
2nd. September. 1898
Taken by
LT. A. M. TABOR
3rd HUSSARS

The helmet itself is of the style of a Persian Kulah Khud, with a cone shaped skull cap, re-enforced by portions of British P-1853 Bayonet blades incorporated into its manufacture. The edge is surrounded by Chain Mail skirt as Neck protection. It has a sliding Nasal bar also of socket bayonet blade construction and a sliding neck guard as well. There is a hole to the center of the top either intended for air ventilation or to hold an elaborate feather display (now absent).

This really is most impressive and comes with a very interesting provenance. A great research project for these upcoming winter nights. Complete with Victorian wood Stand with Silver plaque, ready to display!
