Item Description
Original Item: One of a Kind. Just come to light from an old Estate Collection, this is a MASSIVE Cow Horn Powder Flask, measuring 18 inches in overall length. While possibly intended for a musket or other small arms, this size would almost always be used for cannon priming. The end of the horn is fitted with a rounded wooden bottom plug, which has a screw attached to it for a shoulder strap. There is a metal loop near the spout where the other end of the strap would be attached. There are parts of a very thin leather strap attached, but we doubt these are from the original service period, and more likely added later to help display it.
The powder horn is unadorned except for some simple carving of the spout, so we unfortunately are not able to tell which country it was used by. However it was acquired in the United States, so we assume that it is most likely early American.
A charming and fresh to the Collecting Market very old Cow horn powder horn, ready to display!
