Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. Manchukuo was a puppet state of the Empire of Japan in Northeast China that existed from 1932 until its dissolution in 1945. It was ostensibly founded as a republic, its territory consisting of the lands seized in the Japanese invasion of Manchuria; it was later declared to be a constitutional monarchy in 1934, though very little changed in the actual functioning of government. Manchukuo received limited diplomatic recognition, mostly from states aligned with the Axis powers, with its existence widely seen as illegitimate.
This is an extremely scarce flag for the short-lived puppet state of Manchukuo. The flag measures 17 x 21” and is designed in the same way as many Japanese flags of the period, with two small leather corner tabs which have since heavily deteriorated. The colors of the flag have faded heavily as well, with the original four colors in the left top corner being red, blue, white, and black. The blue has faded heavily. The flag has been folded for a long time which has given it some character.
This is an extremely scarce flag ready for further research and display!
