Original Magnificent U.S. Pre-WWI Named Officers Field Glasses by T. Gall & Co. with Attached Compass & Leather Case

Item Description

Original Items: One of a Kind Set: Here we have a magnificent pair of Pre-WWI Era officer's private purchase brass field glasses, complete with their original carry case and some wonderful provenance. The field glasses have a leather covered body, as well as leather covered adjustable sun shields. There is even a compass mounted to the adjustment wheel between the eyepieces.

They are marked with the makers name and address on both eye pieces:

J. GALL & Co.
New York

The binoculars are fully functional, with the center adjustment extending both eyepieces to adjust the focus as well. We did not notice any mechanical deficiencies, and both sides are still quite clear, with just a bit of haze on the lenses. Fully collapsed they measure 6 1/4"H x 5"W x 2 1/2".

The field glasses are contained in their original blue fabric lined soft leather carry case, which has an intact shoulder strap. The interior of the case is named on the inside of the lid to Capt. G. T. Langhorne in somewhat faded green pen.

Also included in the case is a regimental Christmas 1909 menu for Troop "K" 11th U.S. Cavalry, stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, Dodge, Ga.. The rear of the menu lists the entire compliment of officers and men of the unit. showing Captain George T. Langhorne as the commanding officer.

Born in 1891, Captain Langhorne fought in the Philippines during the Moro insurrection, and was subsequently served in Pershing's punitive expedition against Pancho Villa in 1919 as a full colonel.

A great set of field glasses with a lovely history. Ready to display!
