Original Late 20th to Early 21st Century Kukri Knife Lot With Scabbards - 4 Items

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 4 Available. The kukri or khukuri is a type of machete originating from the Indian subcontinent, and is traditionally associated with the Nepali-speaking Gurkhas of Nepal. The knife has a distinct recurve in its blade. It serves multiple purposes as a melee weapon and also as a regular cutting tool throughout most of South Asia. The blade has traditionally served the role of a basic utility knife for the Gurkhas. The kukri is the national weapon of Nepal, and consequently is a characteristic weapon of the Nepalese Army.

There have been, and still are many myths surrounding the kukri since its earliest recorded use in the 7th century—most notably that a traditional custom revolves around the blade in which it must draw blood, owing to its sole purpose as a fighting weapon, before being sheathed. However, they are frequently used as regular utility tools. The kukri, khukri, and kukkri spellings are of Indian English origin, with the original Nepalese English spelling being khukuri.

The knives are all in lovely condition and vary in country of origin, era and sizes. The kukris all have their small chakmak and karda knives still in the sleeves on the back of the scabbards. The most interesting of the 4 knives is the ornately decorated one. I (Paddy) believe this one to originate from a small blacksmith shop located in the City Center of Amman, Jordan. The reason I believe this to be where the knife originated from is I have an identical one. The manufacture of these were done by a gentleman by the name of “Matrix” who actually was an interpreter for the US Army during the Gulf War and the Iraq War. I spent many months in this area while on a Task Force while serving in the Marine Corps and stumbled upon his shop. He is known locally as being a great edged weapons maker and once you have this kukri in hand you’ll know why! As with most unmarked items there’s no way of knowing exactly who made them, but I am fairly confident that this was made by that gentleman.
