Original Item: Only One Available. Now these are hard to come by! On August 1st, 1876, Colorado was officially admitted as the 38th State in the United States of America. On the following July 4th Independence Day in 1887, the 38 Star Flag became the official Flag of the United States. It remained the flag for 13 years, until between July 4th 1889 and July 4th 1890, 5 new states were admitted, and the 43 Star Flag was introduced.
38 star flags are very rare, both due to the limited time of production as well as the age, and this is the first example we have seen. This United States National Flag measures a nice large 45" x 70" in size, about 3.75 x 5.83 feet.
The flag body is of multi-piece cotton canvas construction, with the stars separate cotton pieces sewn on, with a sturdy canvas header. There are no maker markings visible anymore on the header, and it has three long red fabric ties attached to the header, but we do not know if these are original or not. The header itself is a sleeve, which could have been placed over a pole and tacked in place.
The flag looks to have been in service for some time, as it is quite faded, and has numerous water stains, small tears, and other damage from wear. We unfortunately do not know anything about this flag's history, as it certainly must have been interesting! It has the usual age toning, so the white is now somewhat beige. A very nice example, ready to display!
