Original Item: Only One Available. Now these are hard to come by! On August 1st, 1876, Colorado was officially admitted as the 38th State in the United States of America. On the following July 4th Independence Day in 1887, the 38 Star Flag became the official Flag of the United States. It remained the flag for 13 years, until between July 4th 1889 and July 4th 1890, 5 new states were admitted, and the 43 Star Flag was introduced.
38 star flags are very rare, both due to the limited time of production as well as the age, and this is only the second example we have seen. This United States National Flag measures a nice displayable 32" x 58" in size, just a bit under 3 x 5 ft. It has a 1 1/2" white canvas header on the side.
The flag body is of multi-piece cotton canvas construction, with the stars separate cotton pieces sewn onto the canton, and a sturdy canvas header. Each stripe is also a separate piece of cloth. There are some very faded markings on the header, which we are not able to make out. This flag is quite clean, and was probably laundered several times before being taken out of service. This most likely dates it very close to 1890, as evidenced by the style and condition. There is just a bit of age toning, and a few small rips and tears.
A very nice example, ready to display!
