Original Late 18th - Early 19th Century Nepalese Kora Battle Axe Sword - circa 1800

Original Item: Only One Available. The KORA was a fearsome weapon of Nepalese design, which was used by many Indian States against the British at the time of the British RAJ. Made all of steel, it is designed to function as both a sword and war axe, with the cutting edge on the inner side. This particular example originated from Nepal, and is quite heavy compared to others we have seen. Doubtless this also could have served as an executioners sword as well as a tool for beheading livestock.
This KORA is 29" overall with a 23" blade and is fitted with a fabric wrapped grip with circular metal guitars on both ends. It also has a long iron "skull crusher" pommel. The blade has a broad fuller towards the spine, which widens towards the axe head portion of the blade. There are traces of a circular "flower" engraved into the blade near the end as well, so this example may have once had other decorations, now worn away from cleaning and use. A most impressive weapon that must have been deadly on the Battle field, as well as very effective for beheading after the battle was over.
This example from the turn of the 19th century, circa 1800, and is in very nice condition and ready to display.
