Original Japanese WWII U.S. Navy Send Home Box with Type 90 Helmet and Mementos

Original Items: One-of-a-kind set. This is a "send home box" named to United States Navy  Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Robert E. Coats (ASN 862 56 36) MM3c(T). The following items are included in this set:

- Wood box that measures approximately 12" x 10" x 14" it is painted Navy grey blue and it is addressed in white paint (over OD green):

-  Wonderful example of the classic Japanese Type 90 Army Helmet known as Tetsubo, also colloquially called the tetsukabuto ("steel helmet") by Japanese troops. Features: Original metal star applied to front, Excellent complete three pad leather liner  (pads have been removed), Original tie down chinstrap which has been cut and shortened, original paint with minor wear, Approximate size 7 (56cm) larger if you remove pads. A very nice condition helmet, with most of the original paint, with the expected wear and chips from service. These helmets are continuing to become harder and harder to find on the market, especially once with complete liner and chin strap systems. This example will is worthy of any WWII collection.

- Multiple hand painted silk handkerchiefs and scarves, one is dated 1946, the other read Kyoto, many future Japanese women, temples, characters and landscapes.

- Japanese newspaper articles, 8 sets of decorative chopsticks, painted hand fan, yarn and much more (see photos).

- Copies of USN muster rolls with Robert E. Coats listed aboard the USS Turner DD834.

All in all a really well preserved USN mate bring back send home box of memento from his time in the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) during World War Two and after.
