Original Japanese WWII Silk Rising Sun Army War Flag 29" x 33"

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Rising Sun Flag (旭日旗 Kyokujitsu-ki) design was originally used by feudal warlords in Japan during the Edo period. On May 15, 1870, as a policy of the Meiji government, it was adopted as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army, and on October 7, 1889, it was adopted as the naval ensign of the Imperial Japanese Navy (Naval flags have the sun off center to the left). With the sun in the center, this is a flag of the IJA (Imperial Japanese Army).

This is a very nice one piece rising sun flag that measures approximately  29" x 33", and is made of very woven silk cloth. It is in very good condition, with a dyed central red "Sun" with rays extended outwards.

It features faux leather hang corner reinforcements with tie strings on the staff side and nicely stitched borders. These are always hard to find in good condition. There is overall age toning and a nip or two, but nothing major. Certainly a USGI bring back from World War Two!
