Original Items. Only One Set Available. This is a great but extremely stiffened Japanese field gear set. The set consists of a Rubberized Enlistedman’s Waist Belt, Rubberized Rifle Ammunition Pouch, Rubberized Bayonet Frog, and a separate Rubberized Reserve Ammunition Pouch. Both ammunition pouches actually retain some empty ammo boxes inside!
The rubberized canvas belt has extreme stiffness with heavy cracking in the finish as shown. Virtually none of these belts survived due to their stiffening nature, and this one is a good example of that. The belt is bent in several different directions with the material splitting as shown. The belt itself is torn away after the ammo pouch and is missing probably the last ¼ of the material. It is possible that with the right care and preservation, it could possibly be straightened out for display, but it should display fine as a relic of late-war “Ersatz” material.
Connected to the belt is a bayonet frog for the Type 30 Bayonet. Interestingly, this belt frog used a rubberized canvas securing strap. The majority of these we have seen used a leather strap, but this set is all rubberized canvas. The front ammunition pouch is in fair shape but the lid is stuck open, as the material of the hinge is - you guessed it - rubberized canvas! Thankfully it is stuck open and not closed, so you can see the outstanding retained empty ammunition boxes with maker’s marks on their lids. Both securing tabs to the side of the pouch are broken. The number 2083 is painted in white on the interior lid.
The very scarce and separate reserve ammunition pouch is in better shape than the other components, with a rubberized canvas hinge that still allows for partial opening, but do pay attention to the wear at the hinge. This pouch also retains empty ammunition boxes inside. The number 2083 is painted in white on the interior lid, meaning this is matching with the ammo pouch on the belt.
This is an outstanding group that was absolutely brought back by a U.S. Soldier or Marine at the end of World War II. Any Japanese rubberized canvas gear is difficult to find, so here’s a great opportunity to add some to your collection.
