  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is an extremely scarce example of a Japanese sniper scope utilized on the Type 97 & Type 99 Arisaka rifles. This example was manufactured by a Japanese firm whose symbol was a star with a circle inside, which is likely the Japanese optics company Nishimura, but we have not been able to confirm this. The serial number for this example is 4029, which is listed under the company logo. The number 5479 is stamped on the side, indicating that this is the serial number of the rifle this scope was attached to. This is a great indication that this scope was actually used in combat, while the majority of these scopes were unissued and found in caches years later.

The scope still retains its locking lever, which functions well. This scope will fit onto any 97 sniper rifle ( 22400 + made ) or any 99 rifle ( 3250 ) equipped with the receiver base for the 2.5x scope. The data information on the scope reads:

    2.5 X 10°
    (STAR LOGO)
    NO. 4029
    JESねぢ

The JESねぢ indicates that the scope was made under "Japanese Engineering Standards".

5,500 of these scopes were made in the 1941 - 42 period by NTC Kogaku No. 1 to 2000, Tomioka Kogaku No. 2000 to 3500, and Tokyo Shibaura Elecrtric No. 3500 to 5500 . Kokura Arsenal manufactured 1000 rifles and Nagoya Arsenal 2250 rifles that used this scope variation. So only 3250 scopes were used from the 5500 made. As far as value is concerned the Kokura issued scopes have the rifle number engraved above the locking lever and are the most desirable, next lower value wise are the Nagoya 99 issued scopes of which 2250 rifles were made ( rifle number 5000 to 7250, these are engraved of the backside of the mount ). The unissued scopes are the most numerous but not as desirable collector wise.

The rubberized canvas carrying case is in good shape but is missing the carrying strap as well as the securing strap. It still retains the wooden insert. The case measures 9½ x 3¼ x 2¼”. This is a fantastic example of an extremely scarce Japanese sniper scope. This is the first of its kind we have ever offered. Comes ready for further research and display.
