Original Japanese WWII Propaganda Leaflets Dropped to U.S. Soldiers on Philippines & Given to Philippine Citizens - Lot of 3

Item Description

Original Items. Only One Lot Available. Japanese propaganda leaflets were air-dropped and aimed at Allied soldiers. By featuring images of loved ones from home, it was hoped that these soldiers would be persuaded to surrender, especially given Japan’s military successes from late 1941 to early 1942. This is a lovely lot of three, one of which is meant for soldiers and the other 2 being meant for Philippine citizens.

The first leaflet depicts an American soldier in a diving suit about to enter the Philippines, while several crabs, lobsters, and sharks bearing the Japanese flag are rushing to cut the diver’s air supply, meant to convince soldiers not to move forward. This one measures 5⅛ x 7⅜”.

The second leaflet mentions, a Handsome reward will be yours if you report any knowledge of spies in American service, inform any movement of American troops, or capture an American parachutist and deliver him to Japanese forces. This was meant to convince any Philippine citizen to assist in the fight against the Americans. This measures 4⅜ x 6⅞”.

The final leaflet appears to be more of something given to Philippine homeowners if they violate the community sanitation rules. It is printed in both Filipino and English, urging the homeowner to make clean the front and rear of his house, sidewalk, and street before the next inspection. This was certainly used as a means of barging into their homes without any actual reason. Measures 5 x 9”.

This is a very scarce lot, ready for further research and display!
