Original Japanese WWII Propaganda Leaflets Dropped on Australian Soldiers - Lot of 2

Item Description

Original Items. Only One Lot Available. Japanese propaganda leaflets were air-dropped and aimed at Allied soldiers. By featuring images of loved ones from home, it was hoped that these soldiers would be persuaded to surrender, especially given Japan’s military successes from late 1941 to early 1942. This is a lovely lot of two, one of which is framed.

The first in the frame was aimed at the Australian soldiers. It portrays an American soldier kissing an Australian woman and on the right, the text warns the Australian soldiers that they will lose their women to "the Blacks and the Yanks" if they do not give up the war and return home. The frame measures 6½ x 8½” and the leaflet shows heavy damage which is why it was framed.

The second depicts the skeletal remains of an Australian soldier chained to the island of New Guinea, where many Australians fought, with a citation from US General Douglas MacArthur jammed into his hands. Below the island the headline printed in black, KILLED IN ACTION! Died that the jungles of New Guinea might rest again in peace. It measures 5 x 7”. The back of this example has a 1944-dated inscription, Kay, this is an enemy propaganda sheet. Don’t give this away to anyone. April 3, 1944.

This is a very scarce lot, ready for further research and display!
