Original Item: Only one available. This is a rare World War II Japanese pilot’s bail-out survival “meatball” float flag. The flag is constructed of silk with a stitched and stuffed buoyant border to assist in the flotation of the flag on the water for a Japanese pilot who crashed in the sea. This example also comes with a period silk meatball flag.
The flag is in fair condition with some wear as shown, and is missing its telescoping bamboo pole. It looks to be made of the usual rayon cloth, with the red "sun" dyed in the middle. These have become increasingly difficult to find, especially with the border still stuffed with buoyant. Flag measures approximately 31” by 39”. This example is in fair condition with a very delicate feel to it. There are some scattered holes but it’s overall in good shape.
The included meatball flag measures roughly 24½ x 35¼” and does appear to be a silk example. Both corner reinforcements are retained but the tie strings are gone.
A great pair of flags, ready for display.
