  • Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is a rather rare Imperial Japanese flag! This flag was most likely presented to an Imperial Japanese Army Officer who retired and became a member of the Kaikisha. Kaikosha is a Japanese organization of retired military servicemen whose membership is open to former commissioned officers of the JASDF and JGSDF as well as commissioned officers, warrant officers, officer cadets, and high-ranking civil servants who served in the Imperial Japanese Army & Navy. We believe this to be a Navy flag.

The original Kaikosha was founded before World War II as an organization exclusively of active-duty commissioned officers and warrant officers in the Imperial Japanese Army for mutual aid, friendship, and academic research, but was re-founded after the war to represent formerly high-ranking army officials.

The organization's name means “let’s go together” or “we shall fight this war side by side,” and derives from a line in an old Chinese poem recorded in the Book of Odes.

This is a rare WWII Imperial Japanese flag for a specific veterans branch of this organization, but we cannot narrow down which. The beautiful red, black, and white flag depicts the Veterans’ insignia in the center, a navy blue anchor and chain with crossed artillery behind, and a five point star. This is in front of the Naval Landing insignia, two rows of black zig-zag lines. The bottom left has the exact branch information. Two corners are reinforced with a small halyard and metal ends.

The flag shows heavy wear and light soiling, with tearing at both ends as shown. This example would be best preserved in a frame.

A lovely example ready for further research and display.
